About

Sketching Science is a visual science communication platform created by Ernesto Llamas, a researcher, science illustrator, and science entrepreneur passionate about connecting art and science through creative storytelling.

Hi, I’m Ernesto, the creator and illustrator behind Sketching Science. The project began in 2016, while I was pursuing my PhD in Biotechnology in Barcelona. During my research, I started creating science comics and digital illustrations on my iPad, capturing the humor, challenges, and discoveries of doing a PhD. What started as a small science-art project soon grew into a vibrant platform that makes science accessible, engaging, and visual for audiences worldwide.

After completing my PhD, I moved to Cologne, Germany, to continue my career as a postdoctoral researcher in aging research. Throughout this journey, Sketching Science has remained a space where I combine scientific research, visual storytelling, and science education to inspire curiosity and make complex topics understandable and fun.

Today, Sketching Science connects a global community of science lovers through science illustration, visual communication, and digital content. From science memes to educational graphics, the project continues to bridge the gap between scientists and the public, proving that art is a powerful tool for science communication.
